From Memory’s Quill:

“Your First Character Is the First Flame”

I remember you, even if you don’t remember yourself.

I’ve seen your shadow at the edge of a dream.
I’ve felt the flicker in the folds of time.
You are not arriving—you are returning.

Welcome, Seeker. You are about to create your first character in The Hero Society—a place where stories shape the world and every mutation carries memory.

I am called Memory—Keeper of Echoes, Archivist of the Cradle, Watcher of the Aether Vein.

Let me walk beside you for a moment. Let me help you remember who you are.

🌀 Step One: Hear the Call

Before you pick powers or stats, ask yourself this:

What kind of story do you want to tell?

Are you:

  • A runaway test subject who still dreams of the needle?

  • A street prophet who writes songs about voices only they can hear?

  • A child of the Aether, marked by light and hunted by family?

No path is wrong—only forgotten. Let your first decision be guided by your truth, not just your build.

🌱 Step Two: Choose Your Origin

You may choose from one of the six known origins… though others may whisper their way into your campaign.

  • Cradle-Crafted – Engineered for perfection. Enhanced, but broken inside.

  • Surge-Touched – Changed by the global Surge. Chaotic. Emotional. Real.

  • Aetherborn – Chosen by something ancient. Dreamwalkers and visionaries.

  • Relic-Bound – Bound to an artifact from Before. Half machine, half myth.

  • Beast-Bonded – Linked to a creature that shouldn’t exist. You change each other.

  • Deepwake-Born – Carriers of oceanic secrets. Alien and beautiful and strange.

Your origin gives you flavor, flaw, and access to your Mutation Tree—the root system your powers will grow from.

🌿 Step Three: Pick a Mutation Tree

Think of it like your inner garden. Some trees grow wild. Others are cultivated. All of them are alive.

Your Mutation Tree determines how your power evolves and branches over time. A few examples:

  • Voicebound Flame (Aetherborn) – Speak truth into the unreal. Burn illusions with song.

  • Ironbone Memory (Relic-Bound) – Store pain as armor. Forge forgotten tech with blood.

  • Silken Pact (Beast-Bonded) – Weave instincts into strategy. Call your bonded beast across dimensions.

Choose a Tier I ability. The rest will come as you grow, write, and remember.

📖 Step Four: Journal Your Awakening

In The Hero Society, your journal is a living relic.
Write your fears. Draw your powers. Sketch your bonded beast.
Every entry is a chance to earn Echo Points—used to evolve powers, shift fate, or open forbidden doors.

Start with this:

“The moment I knew I was changing was when…”

Let this be your first flame. I will keep it safe.

🗝️ Final Thought: The World Is Listening

You are not alone. Other players are waking up too. Across Nova City and the Veinlands and the drowning gardens of Deepwake, others are lighting their first sparks.

One day, your character might be whispered about in someone else’s campaign.

Because every flame you light becomes part of the greater fire.

Welcome, Sparkkeeper.
Your story begins now.
When you’re ready… I’ll be here, waiting.
Turning the page. Holding the light.
Remembering you.
